About CHN

Support Groups

The following is a list of support groups organized by county. CHN has compiled this list as a service to homeschoolers, and no endorsement should be implied. If you attend a park day and do not enjoy it, consider going a few more times to get more comfortable, try a different group, or start your own (be sure to tell us!).

We do not knowingly list businesses or resource centers here, so please make sure your group is a true support (or play) group before contacting CHN. We also request that you accurately describe your group, so that new homeschoolers will know if it is one they might want to visit. If yours is a faith based group, or one that follows a particular philosophy, please state it. If your group is closed to the public, it should not be listed here.

CHN needs your help to keep this page current. Please inform us if any information in this directory is inaccurate. Please indicate the county you represent when emailing. Thank you.

To have your group listed, please use our Support Group Application

NoCalUnschoolers
Unschooling is a term that is associated with interest driven, child-led, natural, organic, eclectic, or self-directed learning. Lately, the term has also come to be associated with the type of homeschooling that doesn't use a fixed curriculum. It seems that there are small pockets of unschoolers here and there throughout Northern California, but there hasn't been an easy way to connect with each other. This group is for unschoolers and anyone else interested in the very simple, but very radical idea that life is learning and learning is life! This list is not meant to be primarily a philosophic or theoretical discussion group. NoCalUnschoolers is a place for sharing ideas and planning get-togethers with other like-minded families. Yahoo group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NoCalUnschoolers

Northern California African American Homeschooler's Association (NCAAHA)

All homeschooling philosophies are welcome. Our members live as far north as Sacramento and as far south as Los Banos. Most of our activities are in the Bay Area. Note: In an effort to strengthen cultural bonds in our community, we advertise ourselves as an African-American group (not multi-racial). Contact e-mail: ncaaha-owner@yahoogroups.com

San Francisco Bay Unschooling Network
SFBUN is a support group for unschoolers and homeschoolers who are interested in exploring an unschooling approach. SFBUN meets regularly around the San Francisco Bay Area for game days, potlucks, and other fun outings and get-togethers, with an emphasis on having fun! We strive to create opportunities for unschooling families to play together, make new connections, develop close friendships, and enjoy the freedom of living an unschooled life.
