Expo Fun For Everyone!

I’m back with an update and sneak peek at the fun you could have at this year’s CHN Family Expo.

First, an update on everything behind the scenes: the teen planning committee is looking for teens between the ages of 13 and 18. The Vendor Hall list is growing, more activities are being planned out, and more speakers are applying. There are even separate areas for table top and board games. They won’t be in the Game Room.

Sneak peek time! There is always something for everybody at the Expo and this year is no different. If you are a computer game player, you can kick off your Expo by going to the minecraft kick-off. Or if you’re new to home-schooling, check out the 101 session as these provide information on how to get started and what your options are. Here’s some items that may be of interest to you.

Friday morning, the Board of Trustees (that means my mom, too) will be doing a session about their own family’s journey into homeschooling. There is a Cultural Show and Tell in the Family Village, where you can share something from your family history with others and learn about their history. Later that afternoon, you can go to the Mathemagics session by our keynote speaker.

Saturday, we have the Used Curriculum and Family Entrepreneurial Sale at two different times (11 am and 3 pm. You will find me at one or both.) In between them, you may want to check out the EcoVivarium, a live museum of reptiles, being held in Family Village. Plus, some great sessions are being scheduled.

Sunday holds a few sessions in the morning and Graduation during the afternoon.
I’m am looking forward to the Expo just like every year and after this sneak peek, I hope you guys are too.

Calling all Teens!

Are you interested in joining the CHN Family Expo Teen Planning Committee (TPC)?

The TPC will be responsible for planning games and activities for the Teen Room, hosting and running teen sessions, running Open Mic and planning the Teen Dance at Expo in September. I will assist, providing guidance as needed, but the planning and work will be done by you, our teen volunteers. Our goal is to put together 4 days of amazing activities for one of the greatest teen homeschooling events of the year.

Being a part of the TPC is a lot of fun, but members need to be willing to work cooperatively as a group during the planning process and for a couple hours each day at the Expo.

Requirements:
– Open to teens age 13-18
– Must be a member of CHN
– Must attend CHN Family Expo
– Must have access to FB & Skype

We will meet once per month in Irvine for a live meeting beginning in April (Good to attend, but not mandatory). We will also have Skype group calls and a Facebook Group dedicated to the TPC and the planning process. This is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills and learn about working in a team environment. All participants earn Community Service hours and receive a Teen Volunteer Recognition Certificate. After completing your work at Expo, teens may also request a letter of recommendation from me and utilize me as a reference when applying for jobs.
