A Message From Our Vice President

EXPO 2018 is just around the corner and we are busy working on providing
you with an extra-ordinary homeschool experience.  Sadly, one of the trends
that we have observed over the last many years is the decline in interest in
attending homeschool conferences.  What I would like to do is review why a
homeschool family would want to attend EXPO 2018.

1. SOCIALIZATION: One of the biggest questions friends and family
members always ask homeschool families is:  “What about
socialization?”  Are you addressing this question with action?
Unfortunately, there are a number of families that fail to act on this for their kids
and themselves.  While proper socialization is important for your children, it is also
extremely important for parents to create an active and meaningful
homeschool friendship circle.  Your attendance at EXPO 2018 will provide you
with several days of creating and maintaining delightful life time friendships.
Every homeschool mom needs some homeschool girlfriends.  Similarly, Dads
also need to bond with other fathers.  The children will also have some great
socialization activities.  It is amazing how many of the children over the years
look forward to EXPO so they can rekindle the friendships created during past
EXPO’s.

2. INFORMATION: Have you said:  “I already have a reliable source of
information from my Charter or PSP”?  Well, the reality is that no one person,
charter or PSP can be totally up to date on all information.  In the process of
making decisions the gathering of as much information as you can collect is
critical for proper decision making and during the many great presentations
from our speakers and the exhibit hall at EXPO 2018 you will be able to be
much better informed homeschool family.  With knowledge comes power
and control of your life.  So, please come on down to EXPO 2018 and become
empowered.

3. FAMILY:  Without hesitation I can say that you will not find another
homeschool convention in California that is as family centered as EXPO
The only other convention I have attended would have been the LINK
Conference 20 years ago.  The Family has always been central in the
planning of the CHN EXPO since the very first one.  Not only will we have
activities for all family members but also for the entire family at one time.
During your free time you will have the wonderful recreational opportunities
provided by the Wolf Lodge.  Imagine in revisiting your own childhood as you
slide down some of the best water slides with one of your children.  Imagine
the great photo opportunities as you document your exciting three days at
EXPO, I guarantee you will be posting to Instagram frequently.

4. DADS:  One of the greatest of unsung heroes are fathers.  During EXPO
2018 we will have at least two events directed to dads including an after
hours get together.  Also, what a better time for fathers to spend time with their
children in a fun environment.

5. CHILDREN:  This is why we homeschool!  Not only can you have a fun
time with your children but the vending hall and a fantastic lineup of speakers
will provide you with a multitude of possibilities to enhance your homeschool
You will spend time with other like-minded people, vendors and
speakers where the educational success is top on the priority list for the
weekend.  Between the wonders of the Great Wolf Lodge and the program set
up by CHN your children will thank you for the time spent at EXPO.

6. GRAND PARENTS:  Do you have grandparents that are doubting your
decision to homeschool?  Are you one of the fortunate ones where the
grandparents are supportive?  Either way, the grandparents will have a
wonderful weekend.  In fact, we have a special Grand Parents session
designed to be an open ended discussion about homeschooling and how they
can participate.  Don’t forget, if you register for EXPO the grand parents can
attend for Of course this does not include the hotel cost, but it is our
way of showing respect to the grand parents through providing free admission
to EXPO.

7. GRADUATION:  After 12 years of homeschooling the big day has come,
your child is about to graduate from high school. CHN offers an official
graduation ceremony complete with cap and gown, diplomas, and a ceremony
that high lights the family.  I can guarantee that most of you will require the
use of Kleenex as you watch each family present diplomas to their graduates
and you become aware of the back stories of these deserving graduates.

8. BOARD OF TRUSTEES:  You will have the opportunity to meet and
socialize with the current Board of Trustees, including one of the original
founders of CHN.

As you can see, EXPO 2018 offers your family a wonderful three days of fun,
learning, socialization, family time and just a good old family vacation time.  If
